Atyene means 'precious' in the Arrernte language of Central Australia, is a 100% First Nations-owned fashion label founded by Rachel Perkins. Known for her filmmaking work, Atyene is an extension of her life's work of sharing First Nations culture and stories.
Atyene (pronounced Ah-chen) embodies the spirit of country through design, offering collections that resonate with meaning and purpose. Our first collection is a collaboration with Utopia Art Centre and Iltja Ntjarra. These two community operated art centres continue the artistic traditions associated with renowned artists Emily Kngwarray and Albert Namatjira. The families of these artists continue these traditions, holding culture strong, and this collaboration is a further innovation, sharing their culture in a wearable form.
Our journey began with the support of the NORTH Foundation, a not-for-profit enterprise committed to ethical manufacturing in Australia. With NORTH’s guidance, Atyene was born as a profit for purpose business, carrying forward a shared commitment to quality and cultural integrity while embracing a new and distinct business model.
At Atyene, we are more than just a fashion brand; we are a movement that seeks to inspire, uplift, and empower. We invite you to join us in celebrating the beauty and resilience of First Nations culture through the art of fashion.
